Policies

Portzline Music Academy programs are designed to give your child’s musical learning the best possible chance to bloom and progress diligently and joyfully.   The following policies are meant to help the overall success of the program for each individual student. Daily practice minutes are given here as a suggested guideline for making good progress, but will vary.

  • 40 classes/lessons per year are offered to piano students.  Tuition is charged by the 20-week semester.  It may be paid in full each semester with a $20.00 discount. It may also be paid in 6 equal monthly payments.
  • Tuition Information, including a piano tuition chart, is found on this website. Please inquire if you have questions about tuition or acceptable payment methods.
  • Materials Fees will be charged according to need and must be paid separately or specified separately from tuition payments.
  • The google Calendar Page at this website is to be consulted for updated information, including lesson/class scheduling, weeks without lessons, and recital dates.
  • No Make-ups or Credits will be offered for missed piano lessons or classes, unless the cancellation is made by the teacher.
  • Lesson Trades may be made in advance by a parent with the parent of another student, or ocassionally with the teacher.
  • Summer Piano Lessons are part of the tuition cost.  Near the beginning of each new year the calendar will show the summer lesson weeks so you can plan ahead. There will be 6-7 lessons required in the summer, and calendar date choices will be available to work around traveling & camps.
  • Recitals are two-three times per year as posted on the calendar.  All students are encouraged to participate, but parents always voluntarily register their child(ren) for each recital on the recital registration page of this website.
  • First formal recital for MMK students is after about 6 months of piano classes but the students have opportunities to perform at the studio during parent share times.
  • Piano Practicing guidelines for MMK students and beginning level students is 10-15 minutes 5-6 days a week at the piano, along with CD listening, singing, drumming, dancing, card practice with the practice CD, and sometimes writing.
  • Piano Practicing guidelines for MMK graduates up through early intermediate level is 20-30 minutes per day, 5-6 days per week.  This may include some other activities such as listening, writing, note games, improvising, composing, or “playing around” at the piano.
  • Piano Practicing for Intermediate-Advanced Level students is 45-90 minutes per day, 5-6 days per week.  Listening to and studying new music is essential to success.
  • If your child has any particular needs or learning disabilities, please inform the director. You are also encouraged to share anything about your child at any time that would help the teacher(s) get to know his or her learning style, personality, and gifts.
